Outside walls, floor and soft furnishings for extended living
The owners of this decked courtyard live above their shop and were keen to add another dimension to their home by extending their living space into an overgrown yard below. The design is based on two overlapping rectangles of deck, twisted by 45 degrees to create the illusion of width. Posts and rails around the perimeter increase the sense of being in a room. They are a host for climbers to provide a vertical ‘hanging garden’ to enclose the garden room. Shade tolerant planting is lush and verdant. Bubbling water sooths and white arum lilies glow in the dusk after a hard day’s work.
