Crunchy paths and exuberant planting
An elegant, new conservatory had recently been added to a sprawling, Georgian family house and a traditional garden was designed to incorporate the conservatory and anchor the garden to its surroundings.
The linear design of the terrace unifies the various levels of the house, the conservatory and an annex. A new brick archway links the house to the annex and raised planting beds surround the conservatory to bridge the levels. Traditional herringbone brick and aggregate terraces, steps and paths provide interesting routes, nooks and crannies with various places to sit. The garden opens to a soft, sinewy lawn, with winding gravel paths through ebullient and naturalistic planting drawing the eye to the rural view beyond.
