"The garden balances classic with contemporary and formal with colourful quirkiness", Homes & Gardens
The owners of this lovely house in Hampstead Garden Suburb, built in the early 20th century, wanted a classic, contemporary, adult, slightly quirky, asymmetric garden for views and fun.
The main garden is a welcoming, expansive entrance and also gives plenty of lawn for parties and has various places to sit. A balanced triptych of sculpted box cloud beds flanks the route to the front door and is echoed with staggered Ligustrum lollipops. Abundant seasonal grasses, perennials and bulbs contrast for year round softness and colour.
A crisp rill of reflective water in the rear garden slips into a cool lawn, drawing the eye through the width of the house down the narrow garden to the gate in Hampstead Garden Suburb’s great wall and to the Heath Extension beyond. Silver birches flank the rill and a partially enclosed glass and lead-clad gazebo offers a snug place to sit late into the evening.
