Vibrant colour, fun family garden; September
A great new kitchen and family living space with huge glass doors were the perfect excuse for a new garden for two young children and their hard working parents to enjoy in their Arts & Crafts house.
Linear geometry and arcs tie the upper and lower terrace to the house and are wrapped with a large lawn, which curves away behind planting, narrowing to appear longer. Ebullient, sunny planting in raised beds at house level brings garden and internal space together with ever changing, colourful outlook and includes herbs for easy access. Basalt terraces and cladding link the garden to the kitchen colours. Informal stepping-stones through groundcover planting give the children a fun way to the hidden trampoline in the rear. Huge boulders through woodland planting act as an adventure route for jumping and scrambling to the secret willow den to the rear and give extra privacy to the fairy circle under the Lime. Corten steel troughs filled with planting and bubbling water are focal points and reflect the bronze multi stem trunks of the Tibetan cherries and the tactile orange, purple and white planting.
